Out from the Covers and Into the Clinic: Webinar Series

Out from the Covers and Into the Clinic is a webinar series for health and social work professionals about supporting people who engage in non-normative sexual practices. Through all three sessions, professionals will learn to challenge their preconceptions about sexuality and often misunderstood sexual practices.

In partnership with Jacq Brasseur Consulting, we are excited to offer a three-part series that will hopefully spark reflections for social work and healthcare practitioners in Saskatchewan and elsewhere. While these practices may seem scandalous, inappropriate, controversial or even harmful, we know from our combined experience of working with all kinds of people across Southern Saskatchewan, that everyone has the right to access affirming, supportive, non-judgmental, and anti-oppressive care. We also know that people who engage in these practices are important, valuable and thoughtful members of our community who deserve respect and affirmation from their healthcare and social work providers.

PLEASE NOTE: Any inappropriate, hateful, discriminatory or oppressive language or behaviour during these sessions will not be tolerated. Any participants determined to be anti-sex worker, anti-kink or anti-polyamory may be removed without receiving any refunds. We reserve the right to refuse refunds for any purpose.

  • BDSM & Kink Positive Practice – July 2nd 2021
Polyamorous Positive Practice

Join Jacq Brasseur, of Jacq Brasseur Consulting, to learn about polyamorous people, relationships and practices and how human service providers’ misconceptions about what a healthy relationship looks like ends up perpetuating harmful perspectives for those who engage in consensual non-monogamy. By drawing attention to these misconceptions within service provision, practitioners can provide more meaningful support to people in all kinds of partnerships.

Sex (Work) Positive Practice

Join Emily Ritenburg, of Aroha Pride Counselling & Consulting, and learn about the systemic and institutional ways that human service providers are complicit in oppression that affects sex workers’ daily lives and wellbeing. By drawing attention to these inequalities within service provision, practitioners become stronger advocates for the people they serve.

BDSM & Kink Positive Practice

Join both Jacq Brasseur and Emily Ritenburg to learn about how human service providers’ can become better equipped to understand healthy expressions of kinky sexuality, and how to support people as they discover new, exciting and potentially healing ways to make sexual connections. By drawing attention to how some people may find these practices healing, practitioners can provide less judgmental and more critical approaches to supporting clients through trauma.
